IBIZA VOICECoverage
although new labels are springing up with increasing regularity these days, the majority still fade into obscurity after less than a handful of releases. That they do is an irony that’s not lost on us, but it does beg an obvious question, especially in the case of Berlin’s recently established Steyoyoke imprint. And the question is this: In a city that’s widely renowned for its techno agenda, why bother walking the same hallowed ground that’s already covered by Innervisions, Ostgut et al?

4clubbers.netCoverage
New Berlin imprint Steyoyoke makes its debut with an EP from a pair of city-dwelling production outfits, letting their music do the talking rather than drowning the listener in a barrage of hyperbole. Berlin music engineers I’m Fine (Marco Perschon and Alexander Grafenauer) and Italian local Antonio Olivieri form a triumvirate whose influences come together across a three-track EP that gives the fledgling label an interesting start.
The title track centres around its eponymous vocal, pitched-down to sit in synch with the warm basslines and airy chords that provide the melodic backing. It’s an almost jazzy affair, leaning into deeper waters with eastern influences from a wandering note in the breakdown, part of the blend of old and new. Your Ghost is a livelier mid-point, birdsong floating in the background and a mystical vocal that hangs beautifully in the air over the phased chords and floating melodies, a compelling contrast to the opener. Do Not Care is different again, with off-kilter guitar and pounding kick leading to analogue bass notes, before handclaps and cheers usher in each drop, a mixture of electronic and almost pop, with the multi-tracked male vocal nodding to David Byrne. Ambitious and intriguing.

Steyoyoke, c’est le nouveau né des labels berlinois, véritable concept musical qui rassemble des artistes d’univers différents dans un seul et unique but : créer, promouvoir et se focaliser uniquement sur la musique dans son plus simple appareil.

Stylistberlin – GermanyCoverage
Having waited quite a long time for the launch of this label, I am very happy to announce the first release by Steyoyoke by Antonio Olivieri and I´m Fine. An EP consisting of three original mixes – actually while purchasing a lot of vinyls the past few months, I was a bit sad that you had to pay up to around 10EUR for a single track o vinyl sometimes, or about the same amount for three tracks – one original and two remixes. I welcome this one that has three original ones on it – just as keinemusik showed that it works – and if people demand remixes, there is always the way to release a remix EP like the Round Table Knights did with Paparussi & Say What?! on made to play. All in all a lovely EP that comes with great artwork and talented artists. For the whole package of label art, pr, merchandising, first release and release party: four stars out of five. These guys know how to plan and act. Really well done. Very excited to watch them grow.

Fresh Exclusive HouseCoverage
The Berlin-based innovative duo I’m Fine and the well-known Antonio Olivieri drop their first EP ?If I were music? on the brand new house label Steyoyoke. To guarantee a special debut, the artists combine their love for natural instruments and mature sounds to create a new and exceptional electronic music experience. The release presents three tracks which carry you in a groovy dense and catchy club atmosphere: ?If I were music? comes deep from the heart of good old House Music and almost feels like time travel. The producers merge low-pitched vocals with deep synth pads and a bumpy bass line. The track revives the extraordinary time in Chicago when house music saw the light of the day. ?Your Ghost? makes the sun rise. It has a great and interesting atmosphere right from the beginning that carries throughout the whole track. Pictures of spring, birds and holiday come to mind, enjoy! ?Do not care?, makes you shake your body. A hot and mellow dance floor track with a stomping beat combined with natural instruments such as hang and dobro, create an atmosphere you only know from old western movies.

I’m Fine & Antonio Olivieri are about to release their magnificent ‘If I Were Music‘ EP on February 17th on Steyoyoke house label. I have to say, ‘If I Were Music’ grabbed my soul by the hand and took it for a spin all night long.  It is an incredibly intense and romantic track with a low pitch vocal that leaves you with an enormous sense of wellbeing.

CrazyJack – FranceCoverage

Today’s been a phenomenal day in terms of the quality of music we’ve been sent, with this 3 track EP on fledgling label Steyoyoke really doing the business for me. Its the first track released on the Berlin based house label and the fresh, live feel to the EP really makes it stand out, alongside the fact that it is exceptional quality house music. Both I’m Fine (who consist of Marco Perschon and Alexander Grafenauer) and Antoine Olivieri are also Berlin based, although Antoine was originally from Italy. Both parties have been producing music for a few years, with Antoine releasing on the likes of Darkroom Dubs, whilst I’m fine have dropped EPs for Klangpunkt Records.

Dropout – LondonCoverage
023 // FEBRUARY 2011 – February’s Dropout Podcast comes with a special guest mix from Dropout headliner Stu Hirst. It should give us a taster for what’s in store for Stu’s set on the 4th Feb at the Star of Bethnal Green. Tracks from Nyra, Matthew Dear and Huxley alongside the mix.

Matthew Dear / Headcage // Ghostly
Huxley – Let It Go // Hypercolour
I’m Fine & Antonio Olivieri / Do Not Care // Steyoyoke
Nadja Lind & Paul Loraine / Great Mistake // Lucidflow
Nyra / Nam Pla // Never Learnt

ROOM84 – GermanyCoverage

12-3 Sounds – SwedenCoverage
One of the best things about 2012 has been discovering a bunch of dope new labels putting out amazing music. Among all these new fantastic labels, I think i just found my favourite. Steyoyoke just mailed us about, well themselves, and after checking them out, I’m absolutely stunned. They’re Berlin based, and their first release is a magic three track EP by I’m Fine & Antonio Olivieri. This is why I love it: it combines some rather haunting deep vibes with a sublime speakeasy trip, a truly rare combo. Super dancy, yet equally smart. I’ll surely play Your Ghost a million times in my sets the coming months. And I’ll follow Steyoyoke reeeal close the next year.

Steyoyoke is a new Berin-based house label and it’s first release is the three track ‘If I Were Music’ EP by I’m Fine (Marco Perschon & Alexander Grafenauer) and Antonio Olivieri.
I’m Fine are a production outfit who first met at Berlin’s music engineering school, SAE, and have since gone on to establish a tight working relationship and are currently working on a debut album reflecting their jazz, house and techno influences. Antonio Olivieri is Italian born but now resides in Berlin and has developed a firm reputation via releases for Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs and LustundFreude, amongst others..
‘If I Were Music’ centres around a titular vocal refrain, pitched and moulded to sit flush with a chord driven slice of classic, deep house production that employs subtle modulation and side-chaining to give soft, undulating vibe.

‘Your Ghost’ is next up and is a cut that creeps towards its many peaks beautifully. Walking bassline and seductive vocal hooks combine with nagging, filtered guitar hits that wrap around the sturdy groove tightly.
Finally, ‘Do Not Care’ ends the EP with a slightly rougher edge. A bubbling, erratic analogue FM leads and hefty sub-bass make for a strong counterpoint to organic feel of the track’s captivating, David Byrne-esque vocals and forays into organic instrumentation.
